Thoroughly enjoyed this week's Sunday Script Club read, Prisoners by Aaron Guzikowski. It was just fantastic from character to story structure to plot twists + reveals, but what got me the most was how each scene was utterly relevant. There was no fat in this screenplay and it made for such a beautiful read.
I tried to cram in as much as I could into this week's page, but essentially I looked at the key characters and how they fit into the traditional roles of storytelling, but also the key plot points that progress the story, and how they are weaved into the structure so skilfully.
With thrillers, and I guess detective storytelling in general, there are always a number of reveals, whether that's character reveals, audience reveals or plot reveals, and I loved unpicking the reveals of this screenplay to see how they assisted in creating the overall story arc.
